Pechal Number 14, Day 1

The 14th Annual John Pechal Memorial Golf Tournament, hereafter referred to as the AJPMGT, is well underway. Festivities began with the traditional cocktail party. Ed opened the proceedings with a reading of his latest poetry. "Hey You Pechal Heads" set the tone for a Pechal to be remembered. The political overtones and call to join together will ring true for many Pechals to come. The Handicap index was reviewed, endorsed and signed off by the Statmaster.
Dan was looking good on the range...
And the practice green got a good workout. Chipping and dancing practice!

Danny boy was on his game,
And Kazu brought the tuna van to the party. You can always spot Kazu in the parking lot.
When we turned the corner to the back nine, the wind went from zero to fifteen knots! I wanted to have my kite flying. We enjoyed the views on the course.
After the first round, everybody was still smiling... barely.
And records were broken...
Ed shot a Pechal record 74!
Stat and Phil shot personal best rounds of 79 and 91 respectively.
And of course, I have a commanding lead heading into day 2.
All in all, a fine day of golf.
Yeah, this crowd is having a pretty good time at the Pechal. The seventies club is a pretty fine place.
And Shep rode his bicycle back from Pacific Grove to historic downtown Monterrey. His route tripled the distance and added significant elevation. Add to that the passing of the weather front and a quarter inch of rain, and you can understand Shep needed to warm up when he returned.
Lots more Pechal to come...
