Preparing for Whistler

Tomorrow I depart for Vancouver to embark on an adventure vacation in British Columbia camping at Whistler Village, the site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. This trip will cover 30 miles hiking, 20 cycling, 10 rafting and a glacier ice hike.

Sister Sue has offered a three day respit in Kirkland upon my return, so she will be the first to hear the stories. I promise to take a bunch of pictures and you can look forward to a post in mid-September. I'll be out of blog contact for 11 or 12 days unless I get Twitter working... it is on my list.

So you might imagine my distrees when on Monday I suffered a football injury while on the beach competing with Rick's clan. In fact, it may have been Rick himself that stepped on my foot while I was fighting to get open for a first down reception. We lost the down and I was out for the game.

I was a bit bummed on Tuesday morning as I limped out of the Tango. Campland was a ghost town and I was unsure of my ability to handle Whistler. Dr. Dru offered his usual emergency medical consultation over the phone (thanks dude) and I became hopeful that the trip was not a total loss.

Full mental recovery came that evening with the help of Sharon's fun personality. We had a great night out! And I even got a chance to cruise through Kensington - a lot has changed in 25 years since mom had the florist - except for that sign hanging over Adams Ave.

So here is a shot of the pair after a couple days of heavy icing and rest. Other than some bruising on met 2-3 and a little swelling, I am looking good. The trip is ON and I am ready!
I got my gear together. It is a bit of a trick to bring the right stuff fo the variety of activities ahead without needing a trunk! Since, I have stuffed all this into the duffel and daypack.Bon voyage!
